So how it found one and not the other I'll never know. However I hacked the two have_header() calls out of extconf.rb to force it to build a Makefile, which it did but when I run it I get a compile error: X11/Xlib.h: No such file or directory Which is true (although I was sure that I had installed everything). Does have_header() look at the dependencies within a header file and thus the reason it claimed tk.h was not found was that X11/Xlib.h was not found? Seems a likely explanation.
