 Something like this :

   require 'net/http'
   require 'base64'
   enc = "Basic " + encode64("username:passwd")
   http = Net::HTTP.new('host.domain')
   http.get('/some_file', 'Authorization' => enc) do |recv|
      puts recv
   end
