I'm a smoker, and I have to say that I'm more than happy to stand outside and smoke.  Even when we have people over to my house, I go outside to smoke.  I'd have to admit that when it's very cold out, I like it a lot less though ;)  

Quite frankly, I have a number of epiphanies while smoking outside.  Ya' know, the ones where you've been hacking on something and you're stuck?  I go outside, have a smoke, and whamo! it all becomes clear!

I don't get the bar thing though.  I'd have to say that in general, most people that go to bars either smoke, smoke when they drink, or in general just don't care too much for their health; they're in a bar after all...  Hmm, must be those Californian, fermented asparagus bars ;)
