[ruby-talk:5959] Problem with ++?

Here's a simple script that seems to work fine:

counter = 0
array   = %w( eenie meenie minee moe )
array.each do |x|
  puts x
  puts counter += 1
end

But, when I change the "counter += 1" to "counter++", like this:

counter = 0
array   = %w( eenie meenie minee moe )
array.each do |x|
  puts x
  puts counter++
end

I get a parse error on the "puts counter++" line.

Am I doing something wrong? If "counter += 1" works, shouldn't "counter++"?
