Hi there. I recently ran across a similar problem.
I pre-ordered "Programming Ruby", from amazon.co.uk, but the days passed,
and a couple of days ago, I posted a question in this newsgroup, and found
out that the book already was out. So I e-mailed amazon.co.uk about this,
got no answer within two days, and then cancelled the order and ordered it
again thru amazon.com instead. The book is now in the mail and I am waiting
anxiously.

And just a couple of minutes ago I received this e-mail from amazon.co.uk:
"
Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk with your inquiry.
After checking into your order I can see that you have successfully
cancelled it as of the 28/10/00.
Please allow me to try and explain why this book is still listed on
Amazon.co.uk as "not yet published". The reason being is due to the fact
that some times in North America titles are published much before their
European counterparts.
I am happy that you were able to cancel your order successfully and
hopefully obtain a copy elsewhere. We always encourage our customers to try
and obtain copies with the minimal amount of waiting and fuss.
If we can be of any further assistance to you then please do not hesitate
to ask.
"

So I recommend you to order the book thru amazon.com if possible, it should
work.
/ Gabriel
