Aha! Thanks very much; now I know how to read Ruby error messages (I'm
still a rank beginner w/ Ruby).

I set the env variable TCL_LIBRARY, and now I'm getting the following
error:

-------------------------------------------------------
C:\Ruby>ruby sample\tkhello.rb
LoadLibraryExA: c:\RUBY\LIB\tcltklib83.dll
/cygdrive/c/RUBY/LIB/tcltklib.rb:7:in `require': 1157: One of the
library files
needed to run this application cannot be found. -
/cygdrive/c/RUBY/LIB/tcltklb83.dll (LoadError)
        from /cygdrive/c/RUBY/LIB/tcltklib.rb:7
        from /cygdrive/c/RUBY/LIB/tk.rb:7:in `require'
        from /cygdrive/c/RUBY/LIB/tk.rb:7
        from sample\tkhello.rb:1:in `require'
        from sample\tkhello.rb:1
--------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure what the problem is. Here's a directory listing from
Ruby\lib:

C:\Ruby\lib>dir tc* /b
tcltk.rb
tcltklib.rb
tcltklib76.dll
tcltklib81.dll
tcltklib82.dll
tcltklib83.dll

Am I missing something? Looks to me like tcltklib83.dll is there, so
I'm assuming the error message means it's having trouble finding Tk...?
My env vars are set as follows:

set TCL_LIBRARY=c:\Python20\tcl\tcl8.3
set TK_LIBRARY=c:\Python20\tcl\tk8.3
SET RUBYLIB=C:\RUBY\LIB

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Anders Schneiderman
