[ruby-talk:5580] Proposal: File.tmpfile

Hi,

Why not add File.tmpfile(aModeString="w") to the standard lib so that one
can easily get a temp file? I frequently use it and have extended File:

class File
  def File.tmpfilename
    name = "tmpfile" + rand(100).inspect
    while( test(?f, name) )
      name += rand(10).inspect
    end
    name
  end
  def File.tmpfile(aModeString="w")
    f = File.new(File.tmpfilename, aModeString)
  end
  attr_reader :name
  alias _old_initialize initialize
  def initialize(filename, aModeString="r")
    @name = filename
    _old_initialize(filename, aModeString)
  end
end

Or is it already there in some disguised form? ;-)
