[ruby-talk:6523] alias_method and > and <

From: Hugh Sasse Staff Elec Eng <hgs@...>
Date: 2000-11-22 19:02:07 UTC
List: ruby-talk #6523
The operators > and < don't seem to be in the list of things one cannot
override. So therefore I should be able to override them. Indeed,
I can do
    def >(x)
       # ...
    end

but I cannot get at the old versions.

alias_method is what I think I should be using in my module, but

alias_method :old_< :<
complains about the < after the :old_

alias_method :lt :<
complains about :< as a syntax error

alias_method :lt ":<"
alias_method :lt "<".intern
alias_method :lt ("<".intern)

also give me syntax errors. Is is possible to alias this method?
