[ruby-talk:6041] Cygwin conflicts

Hi,

Question for you folks running Ruby under Microsoft Windows(tm):

What do you do if you are running an incompatible version of
the Cygnus utilities?

In other words, the Cygnus utilities come with some version of
cygwin1.dll, which on many systems (especially if you haven't upgraded
recently) is too old to work with the newest cygwin1.dll used by Ruby.
Ruby can't work with the older DLL, and bash and family can't work
with the new DLL that Ruby needs.

What is the preferred mechanism for having the two co-exist
peacefully?

Many thanks,

/\ndy
