You are right, of course.

This is exactly the opposite of what I meant (my english obviously sucks !)
I too think Ruby (or any other language or about any thing on earth, for
that matter) is fundamentally universal, and that is precisely why issues
like geographical origin, political correctness and supernatural connections
should be irrelevant and disregarded as such.

I only suggested the Japanese image because Ruby is undisputably Japanese in
origin and I like anime, but I really couldn't care less about what it ends
up being.

I'd venture to say that any Icon we pick will be accepted in the long run
for it will be associated with Ruby, and it will be Ruby's emergent
qualities that will enrich the icon, not the opposite.
