First a couple of requests:
  1) Please don't make arbitrary changes to the subject thread.
  2) Please include enough of the original context so that
it's obvious which particular post you are responding to.

Presumably this refers to "Ruby mascot proposal" and
(http://www.rubyconf.com/mascot.html).

Hmm, I hadn't looked at this alternative before; the original mention of
it somehow didn't seem sufficiently interesting (to me) to check out.
This is certainly one possibility for what I previously urged: "As for
the best mascot for Ruby, let's think outside the box, let's break the
mold, let's leapfrog the competition."

I would of course render it in (fairly minimal) color: red for the ruby
and "Perl book blue" for the clothes.

Instead of holding a ruby, I like Ben Tilly's idea of holding a wizard's
staff with a big, brilliantly glowing ruby on top instead.

I would have the presently hidden hand and forearm to be instead raised
forward and upward, holding up a crystal ball (representing the future).

I like a slightly more subtle extension of Stephen White's sound bite
for the Ruby motto that could encircle the mascot: "Ruby -- The Future
of Human Oriented Programming". This incorporates the key ideas of
(more) 'human oriented' and 'future' (popularity). Stephen's clever idea
of 'Orient-ed' need not be made blatently obvious (and possibly
distracting from the more important points); discussions of
'Orient-ation' can be left for introductory articles or for Smalltalk in
other forums.
