[ruby-talk:14033] Distributed Ruby and heterogeneous networks

I wrote my first small distributed application yesterday and it worked
fine when both the server and client are running on the same
architecture, but fails if I run one on Linux and the other on Windows
2000 (irrespective of which is the client and which is the server).

Does DRb only run on homogeneous networks?  I can see what looks like
code to handle network byte ordering in the DRb source code, but
haven't delved too far into it yet.

This is the latest version as downloaded from the web site.

Note, however, that I'm running 1.6.2 (2000-12-18) on Windows 2000 and
a recent build of 1.7 on Linux.

It is the client that falls over each time.  On Linux it complains
about the size of a load being too large.  If it's running on Windows
2000, the connection is aborted when the client writes the request
(presumably asking for access to the remote object).
