I'm in the same case. I'm a python user who discovered Ryby _through_ the 
python newsgroup because I read _good_ opinions about it from python users. 
And I've never seen language bashing in comp.lang.python (just jokes about 
perl unreadable code samples).

I do not use Ruby yet because of install problems (unable to run examples 
using C extensions whereas they are compiled and installed) and 
documentation. But I keep an eye on it, thanks to this newsgroup, so I 
don't expect such debates but only ruby !
