Individual functions are indeed easy to read.  However, to assemble a
meaningful program that makes use of dozens of functions from among
hundereds of functions, it's not practical to have to study the
implementation of each function to know if you're using it correctly
(or to know what it does.)

If the names of functions are clear, that can help, but when the names
do not directly relate to their behavior, unless you know what you're
looking for, you will have to read through countless functions in the
hopes of finding the one(s) you actually need.

A short comment can be invaluable in many situations.  Even good code
needs some comments.
