[ruby-talk:4986] Re: Ruby Book Eng. translation editor's questions
Many thanks to Matz, Aki, SuHi, Dave T., Hal F., Charles H., Brian F.,
Mathieu B. and Conrad S. for your help with the 'kakko question'.
I'm inclined to use:
parentheses ( )
brackets [ ]
angle brackets < >
braces { }
Except for the <>, this agrees with the FreeBSD usage. (Thanks Conrad
and Brian.)
I will try to use the term 'delimiters', or 'matched delimiters', for
kakko 括弧 where possible, and, as Dave suggested, 'general delimited
strings' or 'delimited strings' for what they contain, where
applicable.
I still need to look up some examples of using 'brackets' as a general
term to refer to all these critters as apparently is done in Perl, as
Matz pointed out. I'll check the Camel Book.
As SuHi mentioned, 'an alternative to' could be 'a second form of',
haven't decided yet, but I will add the ellipses ... as you suggest.
Well, the deadline for Chapter 2 is today, actually, and I still would
like to ask a few more questions. Please bear with me. Few of these
edits are earth-shaking by themselves, but they add up and impact the
quality of the translated book.
