It gets slower naturally, and should exhibit linear decease of performance,
which I'm not able to check now.

Might be a good rule of thumb to have. But one shouldn't forget that
there're few things particularly suitable for recursion, like traversing
tree. Letting the language care for your stack handling instead of
hand-coded version makes life easier (usually more lines means more chances
for bugs).
