Where did the -O2 come from? What parameters did you use with configure or what changes did you make to configure, if any? How did configure know to use xlc rather than cc? Are you building from a new/clean directory? Is MAKEFLAGS set in your environment? Have you or anyone else changed /etc/xlC.cfg?
