IMHO, to_* methods make perfect sense if fulfill two conditions: 1.- All the conversion methods are called to_* and 2.- Only conversion methods are called to_* . A kind of semantic field (to_* methods group have a meaning across classes) what is clean and useful. If those two conditions are not fulfilled, I don't see any reason why to_* methods are superior. Why would anyone prefer to_ary better than ary, when to_ * is used inconsistentily?
