Re: Ruby's Standard Library could use a lead maintainer

I think the problem of maintaining the large set of bundled libraries
might be made
more tractable by distributing the task among a few people
who specialize in different types.  Seek a network
specialist, a numeric specialist, a web specialist, etc.  Finding
one person who can be passionate and
knowledgeable about the current set of "standard" libs will
be difficult and, in any case, that person is likely to
become a release bottleneck unless, as Eric suggests, they
are paid well enough to work at it nearly full time.

Alternatively, now that gems is well established and just about
every Rubyist has network access, why not reduce
the standard library to the bare minimim necessary to support
loading new gems automatically from the net as 'require'd?
