It does not work in Python, as there assignment is a statement not an
expression like in Ruby, Perl, C or C++ ...   :-(

Main reason they tell you why it wouldn't be made an expression is, to 
prevent you from errornously writing:

  if a = b:
    # then part
  else
    # else part
