The functions are in the current 1.5.5 and seem to work fine. The 1.5
series _are_ development releases, but we've been using them
exclusively for the last 4 months. If we do find a problem, Matz sets
international records fixing them: I can't remember a problem that
wasn't fixed within 12 hours.

We'll be flagging version specific stuff starting with 1.6 as the
baseline.
