[ruby-talk:00590] Bug in Array#clone!

Hi,

and here the next problem... :-)

I reduced my problem into the following script...

	module Foo
	    def initfoo(a,b)
	        @a=a
	        @b=b
	    end
	    def show_ivar
	        p "Instance vars..."
	        instance_variables.each do |name|
	            print %(\t#{name}=#{instance_eval "#{name}"})
	        end
	        p ""
	    end
	end

	arr = [12,13,14]

	arr.extend Foo
	arr.initfoo 1,2
	arr.show_ivar


	arr2 = foo.clone
	arr2.show_ivar

The output of that script is...

	"Instance vars..."
	        @b=2    @a=1""
	"Instance vars..."
	clone1.bug:8:in `show_ivar': undefined method `each' for nil (NameError)
	        from clone1.bug:22

A short analyze of array.c let me believe, that `Array#clone' is wrong.
It seems only to clone the own (hidden) memory, but forget all about
possible instance variables.

In that case they are born by calling `Foo#initfoo' after extended `arr'
by `Foo'.

As I have seen, the datatype `RArray' has no `iv_table' pointer. But as
the example shows, instance variables could be stored too. But how?

Sorry for not offering a patch, my knowledge is too limited yet! :-(
