Or, how about separating them so that accmode will return
Fixnum and access_mode will return String.

  f = open("/dev/null")
  f.accmode			# => IO::RDONLY
  f.access_mode		# => "r"
  f = open("/dev/null", "w")
  f.accmode			# => IO::WRONLY|IO::CREAT
  f.access_mode		# => "w"
  f = open("/dev/null", "r+")
  f.accmode			# => IO::RDWR
  f.access_mode		# => "r+"
