Is there any comment on this? This is a big bug in 1.9.2 that we'd like to get fixed as soon as we can, but I need some input on it.

[ruby-core:29497] Calling malloc from signal handler

From: Perry Smith <pedzsan@...>
Date: 2010-04-13 16:00:10 UTC
List: ruby-core #29497
Hi,

I'm trying to debug a couple of Ruby issues on AIX. One I have opened
a ticket on but the other I have not. I'm trying to determine who is
at fault.

In brief, ruby gets a SIGSEGV error and in the sigsegv routine, it
calls rb_bug which eventually ends up calling malloc (from rb_newobj
via assign_heap_slot). All the time I've been using Unix, I've been
told that an application could not call in to malloc during a signal
handler. I'm wondering if that is generally true still or has times
changed and now it is only true for AIX.

I'm working with Ruby 1.9.1 p376 compiled with gcc 4.3.1 and I'm
currently running on AIX 5.3 TL08 SP07.

Thank you for your time,
Perry Smith
