Ruby does not suffer from the (pathologically bad) threading design
decisions that afflict python, so the fixes proposed in that video are
not applicable, or necessary. In fact, ruby threading as it stands now
(even before my lovely little patch) is rather better than python will
be after the fix.

Ruby's threading currently involves rather more polling than I am
happy with, but I'm not sure anything can be done about it, short of
eliminating the global lock.

The dude giving that talk gushes on and on about how wonderful their
new gil is. I'm sure it is better, but their new design still makes me
cringe in horror and cry out in frustration. Is this what passes for a
threading expert in python? Maybe if they work at it some more, they
can get their threads to be as good as ruby's.

Ok, enough python bashing.
