I don't read Japanese well enough to understand what is being
discussed in that thread, but here are my thoughts:

* Having SQLite available from a standard Ruby library would be just
excellent
* Building the library from scratch ourselves is a horrible idea

It looks like Jamis abandoning development of the SQLite library is
being discussed in the thread, but that's really a non-issue to me.
There's a far superior SQLite interface for Ruby called Amalgalite:

   http://copiousfreetime.rubyforge.org/amalgalite/

Amalgalite has a lot of things going for it:

* It embeds SQLite in the extension
* It supports the backup/replication features (which it seems is also
discussed in the thread)
* It supports taps
* It has pretty much everything the old SQLite library did
* It's actively maintained

I can't think of any good reason for us to build a library when such
an excellent candidate already exists. Please consider bundling
Amalgalite instead!
