And two modifies for socket.c will not be accepted.

  * shutdown is a work for socket operation.
  * "IO nor file descriptor" means "send_io" accepts either instance
    of IO (or its subclass), or file descriptor (Fixnum).

Other changes are fine.  Can you resubmit the diff, Ian?
