That's a good idea. But as I started to implement it, it struct me that 
we can get the same effect using

   File.fnmatch("*<i></i>/*", ...)

Given that dir.c is the only place we've seen this issue, should I go 
ahead and add the <ignore> tag, or is this (ugly) workaround OK?
