Re-read what I posted and realised I never said what I set out to say. 
Your never going to persuade those that are set in there ways no matter 
what you say. So leave the duck typing chapter in just make it clear 
that what your writing is simplified for the sake of clarity and your 
not trying to start a war. Those that think this is a religious matter 
aren't even going to pick up the book and hence are not in you audience 
in the first place.

As a matter of curiosity, do you know the back ground of people who 
decide to learn ruby? Are they new programmers or people who already 
know a couple of programming languages?
