[ruby-core:24561] [Bug #1818] ARGF.eof fatal if called after ARGF.close or ARGF.skip

From: Mike Kasick <redmine@...>
Date: 2009-07-26 02:57:38 UTC
List: ruby-core #24561
Bug #1818: ARGF.eof fatal if called after ARGF.close or ARGF.skip
http://redmine.ruby-lang.org/issues/show/1818

Author: Mike Kasick
Status: Open, Priority: Normal
ruby -v: ruby 1.9.2dev (2009-07-26) [x86_64-linux]

Since ARGF.eof doesn't call "next_argv()", it is fatal if called after ARGF.close or ARGF.skip as the stream associated with ARGF.current_file is closed:

$ echo foo > /tmp/foo; echo bar > /tmp/bar
$ ./ruby -e 'ARGF.gets; ARGF.skip; p ARGF.eof?' /tmp/foo /tmp/bar
-e:1:in `eof?': closed stream (IOError)
        from -e:1:in `<main>'

Attached is a simple patch against svn trunk which calls "next_argv()" in "argf_eof" to correct this behavior. Results in:

$ ./ruby -e 'ARGF.gets; ARGF.skip; p ARGF.eof?' /tmp/foo /tmp/bar
false
