Proof? rubygems.org has served up 53,846,355 gems to date. The amount of =
downtime listed on their status feed looks to be very low. That seems =
pretty dependable to me.

Why not apply the same logic to stdlib? The smaller it is, the better!

The size of the rubygem repository has nothing to do with this =
discussion. Ruby distributions can package and deliver gems just as =
easily as it can package and deliver a static stdlib. We're not asking =
for ruby core to bless the entire rubygems repo, that wouldn't make =
sense. What we're asking is for stdlib to ship in a more modular and =
upgradable fashion.
