Generally speaking, why I'm not merging your patches yet is because it seems
they are backports from 1.9 against 1.8.7; which means, I have to check if
1.8.8 also acts wrongly and if so, I have to touch 1.8.8 as well as 1.8.7.
That's not your fault.  Just core-team side development overhead.  So please
be patient a bit more.  You are not ignored.

Yes, this one needs further analysis.  I've not seen this on a normal
cross-compilation.
