As far as I can tell, there are no optimizations being set. The CFLAGS are:

   -g -DYYMAXDEPTH=300

And a few -I flags as well. I also tried compiling a shared library, so 
-fPIC was thrown on once.

Still, I'm at my wits' end, so I just tried -O0 (same problem), -O1 (got 
further, but still segfaulted, in a different place), -O2 (same as -O1), 
and -O3 (same again). :(

Thanks for the suggestions, Brian. Any other ideas? How do Perl or 
Python deal with pthreads? Any chance a clue could be gleaned from those?
