Ok, but since the period escaping is already being done (just with
this one bug), what has to happen for this patch to be applied so
other people don't run into this problem in a production system like I
did?

It seems like waiting for BDAT support to be implemented before fixing
a bug with period escaping (which is already being done and will still
have to be done) for the DATA command is not the best experience for
ruby users. Would you agree?
