Excellent Matz, thank you very much!

I think it's ok that both 1.8 and 1.9 return RUBY_ENGINE as "ruby" since 
even though they have a different interpreter (AST-based or 
bytecode-based) they're still largely based on the same code and run the 
same extensions. And both are the direct descendants of "standard Ruby" 
where others are heavily modified versions (macruby) or entirely 
different codebases (all others).
