Thanks for patching that!  rev. 16534 works great now in the 1.8.6 branch.
Note that the
branches/ruby_1_8_7
branch also seems to have this leak, so might well use a similar patch.

The regex patch suggested unfortunately wasn't all that was necessary,
the patch did do it, though.

I also get these in runtime, under valgrind, using the same code above
[if they mean anything to anyone :) ]
