MRI can satisfy all of your needs because it's available for all the platforms the other implementations target (bearing in mind that both JVM and CLR are meta-platforms that still have to run on underlying platforms with native ANSI-C compilers). The reason for wanting to use an alternative implementation such as JRuby or IronRuby is that you want to take advantage of features of their respective platforms, making your code fairly platform specific anyway, so all that really matters is grammatical equivalence and an ability to run unsurprising core libraries. But unsurprising core libraries could still differ from a notional standard library without much impact on the day-to-day work of a developer. And frankly as all of these alternative implementations are still relatively young I'd personally much rather that some of them dared to be bold in their design choices to see how well Ruby performs outside it's current niches as a scripting and web development language...
