While I am personally against the ++ notation in Ruby (as it hides the
fact it's an assignment, not an object modification or an usual
operator, and saves very few characters in the most usual case of
ignoring the result), I think it would make more sense for `++x` to
expand into `x = x.succ`. On the plus side, it's more general (thus
being possibly more useful), and possibly slightly faster too (as it
basically performs the same operation but without the overhead of
checking and unwrapping the second operand when implemented natively).
On the negative side, floats do not implement #succ. Not something
that I particularly miss, but to assume nobody else uses it would be a
pretty big leap.
