Seconded.  I've been complaining about CVS for a few months now.

Yes, but CVS's pserver has always been insecure -- passwords are sent in plain 
text.  SSH is a much better solution, but I don't know how they're going to 
allow anonymous access to an SSH protected server.

In any case, remember that the network layer of CVS is a hack.  CVS was 
originally meant to be used on a shared drive.

There's more initial investment: he has to install a Subversion server.  In 
the long run, it'll be easier for him, though.  Subversion requires a lot 
less maintenance than CVS, and as a bonus will generate log files in XML ... 
meaning that a changelog could be generated in text or HTML by XSL.

But, you're right.  Matz has to *want* to shed the shackles of CVS; Ruby isn't 
a democracy.  I really hope that Matz at least reads up on Subversion and 
looks at the advantages of migrating.  Subversion even provides a script 
that'll convert a CVS repository to a Subversion one, maintaining the 
history.
