SysV IPC is a key part, for better or worse, of the communication between our independent processing running a high-volume data loader component here on our ESM team at IBM. This allows real-time re-prioritization of data loads, etc. But up until this new year we had the freedom of sticking with one OS implementation, which has just changed. We are experimenting currently with replacing that IPC with Ruby threads, but their blocking nature might keep us prone to other IPC and parallelism options. Still researching things, but I had read somewhere that Ruby threads in 1.8 and above are now concurrent, non-blocking, and native, which would be fantastic (and btw knock Perl away, who's threading stinks) something I am still digging into and testing. -- Rob Muhlestein http://rob.muhlestein.net
