Maybe, did you test before install? I saw same error by following steps. (I attached error message)

  1. checkout ruby_1_8 branch to e:\ruby-cvs\ruby_1_8

  2. mkdir e:\ruby-cvs\win32_1_8

  3. cd e:\ruby-cvs\win32_1_8

  4. ..\ruby\win32\configure

  5. make

  6. ruby ..\ruby_1_8\runruby.rb --ext=".ext" ..\ruby_1_8\bin\testrb -v ..\ruby_1_8\test

After installed ruby, all tests passed fine by following command.

  1. testrb -v e:\ruby-cvs\ruby_1_8\test

I don't know this is a restriction of test suite or bug.
