The OpenJDK 7-based Java you see is most likely just the OpenJDK 
repository at some particularly stable point in time soon after it was 
open-sourced. Since JDK 7 was OSS before JDK 6, a lot of the Linux 
distros already have packages for something "7ish", but I believe it's 
closer to 6 than what is today or will eventually be Java 7.

The TCO, dynamic invocation, fixnums, and other changes are in a 
separate development branch slowly getting merged into the main line. So 
prerelease "development" builds will show bits and pieces as time goes 
on. But I believe even development builds are required to pass the TCK, 
so they're usually extremely solid. And of course it's all OSS, so you 
can build it any time.

The last I'd heard, the main Java 7 release was not going to be final 
until some time in 2010. But I run dev builds of Java 7 on several 
machines and for some of my day-to-day work on JRuby.
