Latest attempts... I started by removing previous ruby directories and also uninstalled Cygnus. There are many files at ftp://ftp.netlab.co.jp/pub/lang/ruby/pc/ It is not clear which ones I need to download... I decided to follow Arima's advice and downloaded ftp://ftp.netlab.co.jp/pub/lang/ruby/pc/rbcw142.zip I unzipped it in D:\Ruby. I downloaded cygwin (the "full.exe" package) so I have cygwin1.dll on my path. (is this all I need?) ruby -v now reports: "ruby 1.4.2 (1999-09-18) [i386-cygwin]" Single process ruby stuff seems to work fine. Alas running ruby sample\test.rb still fails on the "system" part, just like before. I removed everything again and I bravely tried the Japanese installer. I could not read anything, but accepted the defaults until I reached a 3 radio buttons prompt with T, C and U as the keyboard shorcuts for the options (only thing I can read!) I selected the first option (T). After completing the install, nothing runs at all. Even ruby -v fails. I also tried rubyw.exe and anything I could find around, still nothing worked. I ran the installer again and this time went for the "C" option. Same result. I ran the installer again and tried the "U" option and this was the uninstall. I removed what I had installed, so much for "rbcw142j.exe". The best results I get are with rbcw142.zip, where at least ruby seems to work, except that all the process functions like "system()" and the backquote ` all seem to fail. I am a feeling a bit tired just now. I'll go for a walk and see if I get any bright ideas or if new suggestions come in from people who have been able to make ruby work on Windows NT. -Francois- >From: ARIMA Yasuhiro <fit0298@fitec.co.jp> >Reply-To: ruby-talk@netlab.co.jp >To: ruby-talk@netlab.co.jp (ruby-talk ML) >Subject: [ruby-talk:00849] Re: Ruby on Windows NT, anybody? >Date: Sun, 17 Oct 1999 14:57:12 +0900 > >Hi. > >Please get the latest version from a ftp site, and retry. > >ftp://ftp.netlab.co.jp/pub/lang/ruby/pc/ >ftp://ftp.netlab.co.jp/pub/lang/ruby/pc/rbcw142.zip > >If you are a challenger:-), please get "rbcw142j.exe". >It is a installer for Japanese speaker. >(Almost messages are Japanese script.) > >-- >arima > ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
