Hmm sounds reasonable.  I did not have that kind of cases (1.8.5 had
already broken compatibility) in mind.  I thought keeping compatibility
with 1.8.5 release should be enough but it seems things were not that
simple...

OK then, I decided to backport this to 1.8.5 branch.  Thanks for
bringing up.
