2.1以降用ですがこういうのはどうでしょうか。

set_trace_funcは全てのメソッド呼び出しで呼ばれるので避けたほうがいいでしょう。

2.0以降ではModule#prependがあるのでalias_method_chainを使うことはない
でしょう。
