I wholeheartedly support:

A. The dropping of full API documentation in favor of terse cookbook 
pages.
(I far prefer electronic API references anyhow...easier to search, 
hyperlink, and copy/paste)

B. The concept that some libraries are more important than others, and 
hence should have more information devoted to them, and

C. A presentation of them in the manner Gavin S. suggests -- a full 
chapter of one-library-per-page, and then other chapters which contain 
more in-depth coverage for those libraries necessitating careful 
examination.
