I've previously done a libglade wrapper for java, and it was pretty
trivial - I was looking at doing one for ruby sometime this weekend, since
it doesn't look like anyone else has it in the works.

The one thing I'm not sure about is what interface to provide for setting
up the connections... I was thinking of an iterator over the handler
names, expecting a block/method to be returned, to give maximum
flexibility but still allow something like

controller = MyController.new
GladeXML.new("test.glade") { |handlerName| controller.method(handlerName)}

for the typical case of mapping handlers to methods.

Does this work for people?

On a related note - can someone tell me what happened with the
gtk-slowness problem?  The gtk package still has the 100ms wait enabled,
and although I could get acceptable behavior by either commenting out that
line or applying the select() patch from the list archives, I'm curious as
to why the default is still so slow... it seems like this was last
discussed about a year ago, but hopefully someone remembers what the
conclusion was.
