Double-check the bottom of the RubyGarden page -- I kept updating after 
posting to the list yesterday.

You can get the latest 1.8 cores from the exerb page -- then make sure 
you tell it which core to use, e.g.:

    exerb.rb -c cui18 myexe.rbc
