Thanks for your comments. As you point out, Ruby 
is very dynamic, so the idea of compiling it is 
daunting to me. In my case, execution speed is 
not an issue. I simply want the ability to hand 
someone a single file and have it run.

My other goal was minimum work on my part. I 
almost made it.
