What you really want is a full shell-metacharacter escaper:

class String
        def shellescape
                self.dup.gsub!(/([&!#<>'" ])/) do |s|=20
			# I think that's all of them
                        '\\' << s
                end
        end
end

and use `vorbiscomment #{oldname.shellescape}`
